Re-use of biomass waste

From the waste of industrial ceramic works to products for the food and agriculture production chain: an innovation described in one of the winning videos of the I invest here 2018 contest

The project

The SICER ceramics company in Fiorano Modenese (MO), in collaboration with the University of Perugia, has carried out a research project, giving rise to a pilot system to synthesize biomass waste (ashes) to generate products for agricultural use.

Objectives

Reducing production waste and creating synergy between different production chains based on efficiency and the reuse of raw materials.

Results

Thanks to European funding, the resource of ceramic-production scraps has been used to obtain products tested on various vegetable plants to fight the most common sicknesses, such as iron chlorosis and biotic diseases.

Reference call

The SICER project was co-financed by the ERDF ROP 2014-2020 Axis 1, with the call “Research and Development projects for businesses”.
