A visual contest to communicate the value of skills and bring citizens closer to European Funds

CLIC was launched during the European Year of Skills as a participatory communication initiative promoted together with the Region’s European Funds Communication Network. The starting point was a simple question: how can we make the value of skills visible and engage people in understanding the role of training and Europe’s investment in people?

What is CLIC

CLIC is a visual competition inviting people to tell a story of transformation through images. Citizens, public bodies, companies, associations, schools, universities and informal groups were asked to represent a change linked to skills, whether already experienced or still desired. The initiative aimed to give visibility to the impact of skills on people’s lives and communities, while also raising awareness of the opportunities supported by European Funds in Emilia-Romagna.

How the contest worked

Participants were invited to submit two images showing a “before” and “after” dimension of change.

The goal was not only to document change, but also to represent it symbolically through a simple and accessible visual language.

A participatory digital experience

Applications were submitted through an online form on a dedicated website.

All eligible entries were then published online, allowing users to explore the projects and vote their favourites.

Awards

Alongside the projects selected by a regional jury, awards were given to

  • the project receiving the highest number of public votes;
  • the most inclusive project.

The winners received personalized cultural and leisure packages to discover Emilia-Romagna.

A special guest, astrophysicist and science communicator Luca Perri, explores the themes of science, skills and change through an entertaining talk to connect the competition to a broader reflection on knowledge, curiosity and innovation.

From contest to communication campaign

A two-phase social media campaign was developed to give visibility to the stories collected and to transform them into a broader communication narrative about European policies and their impact on everyday life.
